Middle School Life

"I'm so bored," I muttered, staring at my french fries on the table.

"Who isn't?" My best friend, Julianne Rector, said. She reached for my fry. I slapped her hand away. "Ow, that hurt. You're not even eating your fries."

"Just because I'm not eating them doesn't mean I don't want them." I explained.

"You just don't want me to have it." Julianne said, frowning.

"How'd you guess?" I laughed.

"Alice, I have a question."

"Uh, yeah?"

"How did we become friends anyways?" Julianne questioned, trying to take my fry again. I let her take one.

"I should know?"

"Well anyways, have you seen Seth Mirnom yet?"

"Duh, I always do."

"He's so hot."

"I'm aware of that."

"But William is such much hotter."

"To you."

"What?"

"Nevermind."

"Okay, let's change the subject."

"Sure, I guess," I muttered, taking a fry from my tray. Julianne laughed silently. I looked at her. Her face became innocent. I ate another fry. Julianne tried to get a fry again. I shifted the tray towards her.

Julianne shallowed her fry whole and said, "So, what do you have next?"

"Um, French."

"Ugh?"

"Mrs. Gilbal scares me."

"I know, I have French 2nd and she's my teacher."

"It would be awesome if we were in the same class."

"Yeah, we could sit right next to each other."

"Locke and Lyson. Awesome!"

"Too bad we aren't in the same class." Julianne reached for another fry. I let her again, and she smiled.

"Don't look back, William is walking in our direction." I whispered, grinning. Julianne quickly opened her textbook and pretended to read it. William Masclie walked passed our table, sitting at a table across from us. He looked our way and smiled to Amanda Dilburt. Amanda smiled back, and smirked at us. I faced Julianne. "Our crushes will never like us."

"Sad, but true," Julianne muttered, frowning again.

I smiled slowly and whispered,"But you never know."

Julianne perked up at me from her textbook, her face filled with hope, and said,"I hope you're right."

"I always am." I laughed.

"Right, whatever you say." Julianne giggled.

"Miss. Lyson, you are late," Mrs. Gilbal yelled quietly.

"I'm very sorry." I apologized. I rushed to my desk in the 3rd row. Everyone watched me as I took out my pink binder and wrote down the aim.

"Ahem, class, how do you say hello?" Mrs. Gilbal asked. The class looked straight at her and took their eyes away from me. Peter Perkins raised his hand. "Yes, Mr. Perkins?"

Peter smiled as he answered, "Hello."

Mrs. Gilbal looked disappointed at him and asked, "What is this class?"

Peter pretended to think. "Uh, French?"

"Correct, and what do we speak here?" Mrs. Gilbal questioned.

"Uh, English." Peter laughed. Giggles filled the room.

"Mr. Perkins, I would gladly appreciate if I see you in detention."

"Sure, I love detention."

"For one week."

"Okay."

Mrs. Gilbal looked at us and asked, frowning, "How do you say hello in French?" She made sure we heard "in French."

"Bonjour!" The class screamed in unison.

Mrs. Gilbal turned to Peter and said, "That's how you say hello."

Peter shrugged and whispered, "I still think we speak English more than French."

Mrs. Gilbal's eyes narrowed and pointed outside the door, "Mr. Perkins, go outside, come back when you're well-behaved. You get a zero for the day, and you have two weeks of detention and lunch detention."

Peter nodded and grinned as he got up from his seat. He strutted towards the door, he muttered something before going into the hallway. Noises filled the room. Michelle Hilpines raised her hand. Mrs. Gilbal nodded at her. Michelle cleared her throat and everyone became quiet. I looked straight towards Michelle. Someone whispered, "nerd" to his friend nearby. Michelle stared at the unknown person, who turned out to be Alex Grimes.

"Mr. Grimes, I would be a lot of happier if you are now outside with Mr. Perkins. You will also have detention and lunch detention for two weeks. Sometimes," Mrs. Gilbal shook her head, "I just wish you were like your older sister, Jen."

Alex smiled and laughed, "I would be happy to stay outside." Alex got up and marched outside, smiling a bigger smile.

Mrs. Gilbal shook her head again and said, "Alright, Michelle, what did you want to say?"

"I think that Ale- I mean, Mr. Grimes, should have detention for more than two weeks." Michelle suggested, her finger pointing in mid-air. I knew she was angry at Alex for calling her a nerd. But I have to admit, she is. She gets a 99 average in almost every subject. The other subjects are 100 average. She never chewed gum ever since she started school. She barely eats any candy, and she actually listens to the teachers. I think that Michelle studies 24/7.

Mrs. Gilbal stared at her and said, dispproving, "I'm sorry, Miss. Hilpines, but I think two weeks should be enough for now. If he does not behave any better, than more weeks would be helpful."

Michelle smiled a fake smile and replied, "I understand." Michelle's hair drooped and it was obvious she was disappointed. This was like the first time a teacher disagreed with her.

"Thank you for understanding, Miss. Hilpines." Mrs. Gilbal paused as the bell rung. "Tomorrow, make sure to bring your binder and your-" I was out the door before I heard what she had said.

"Hey, Alice!" Julianne screamed in the buzzing hallway.

I turned around and stared at her, "What?"

"Just saying hi, gosh."

"More like hey."

Julianne looked at me, sarcasticly, "You know what I mean."

"Uh, yeah."

"Ohmigod, we have Art next."

"So?"

"I forgot to bring a pencil."

"The art room always has pencils."

"Oh yeah."

"Dumbo."

"Hm, what did you say?"

"Nothing."

"Thought so." Julianne turned to her locker. I leaned against the nearby locker and watched her turn her lock. 12-26-8, I carefully watched. "Alice, are you looking at me turning my lock again?" I shrugged.

"Maybe."

"Seriously, tell me."

"Yes."

"What is it?"

I bent down near her shoulder and whispered, "12, 26, 8."

Julianne looked at me and shook her head. "Wrong, but close."

"Don't worry, I'll find out soon enough."

"You wish."

"I don't need to wish."

"Ugh, the bell's going to ring and you know how Ms. Gergia is."

"Why don't you hurry up, slowpoke?"

"I am! I am!"

"Doesn't look like it to me."
