(FanFiction) The OC - Alex & Marissa - After the Break-Up

(What really happens in the show. What I'm writing afterwards is from my imagination.)

Alex and Marissa start to watch a horror movie the night her and Seth broke up. When they decide that they are cold, Alex reaches over Marissa to pull a blanket over them. As she leans over and pulls back, they share a glance at one another, and it is something Marissa has never experienced before. Alex and Marissa become very close over the next while, and when Alex's ex-girlfriend will not let her leave her house, Marissa gets her out of it by saying that her and Alex are dating. The next day Alex then questions why they hang out so much, which ended up hurting Marissa's feelings. Later on though at The Bait Shop, Alex is listening to Rachael Yamagata sing a sultry tune when Marissa approaches her from behind and takes her hand, weaving their fingers together. They exchange smiles. On Valentines day Marissa goes to see Alex at the Bait Shop after an awful dinner with her Mom. Alex then asks Marissa if she's in the mood for the beach, which is where they share their first kiss. Alex then feels that Marissa is embarrassed by her because she won't tell anyone about them, but Marissa then tells her best friend Summer, making her happy. In the episode the Rainy Day Women Marissa then moves in with Alex. Alex and Marissa end up experiencing some problems in their relationship manly because of her jealousy towards Ryan. They later break up in the episode The Blaze Of Glory leaving Alex devastated, she decides to go back home and go back to school.

"Alex, I can't believe you're leaving." Marissa said, watching Alex pack.

"I'm sorry, but I have to. I just can't stay, this is to hard for me if Ryan's here." Alex muttered Ryan's name as if it was an awful disease. Alex grabbed a poster from the dirty wooden wall. "And I'm pretty sure your mom wants you to live in your house again."

Marissa let out a sigh, "Don't remind me."

Alex gave her a slight smile, "Sorry." She looked around the room. "I guess that's it. I already paid for the rent so you still have a few days."

"This whole place is empty," Marissa said, looking around the room. "I'm not going to sleep on the floor."

Alex laughed weakly. "So you would rather stay with your mom than sleep on the floor."

"Ooh, hard choice. Probably the floor." Marissa grinned.

"You could sleep over Summer's." Alex suggested.

"Oh yeah. I'll ask her later."

Alex looked around one final time. "I should go."

"Do you have to leave today?"

"Yeah, I can't take this any longer."

"Oh."

Alex opened the door. "I guess this is good-bye?"

Marissa nodded. "I'm really sorry if I hurt you."

"No problem," Alex lied, hiding the pain from her face.

Tears sprung from Marissa's eyes. Alex stood there, watching the only person she loved, cry. Alex walked closer to Marissa and gave her a hug. "Alex, I almost forgot. I still have your heart necklace."

"Keep it. My heart will always be with you." Alex said, staring at the silver necklace, glowing from Marissa's neck. Alex looked back down at her own. "I was wondering this for awhile, ever since your mom had said..."

Marissa stopped crying. "Ohmigod, what did she say this time?"

"Well, I was wondering if you were using me to get back at her mom."

"No way. I can't believe she gave you that idea. I wasn't using you. I really do love you."

"What about D.J.? The lawn guy or something?"

"I was using him. I felt bad afterwards."

"So you swear you weren't using me?"

"I swear I wasn't."

"That's I wanted to hear. I really have to go now."

Marissa glanced at her watch. "Yeah, you're going to be late."

Alex gave Marissa a hug. "I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too." Alex tried to break free from Marissa's grasp.

"Uh, Marissa..."

Marissa blushed. She let go of Alex. "Sorry."

"No problem."

"Bye Alex."

"See you, I might come back one day. Keep hoping." Alex grinned.

"You better."

"Bye." Alex finally got in her Jeep and finally left before waving a good-bye.

Marissa woke up. Summer was still sleeping next to her. Marissa grabbed her clothes, ran to the bathroom and quickly changed. Dr. Roberts was already awake downstairs, cooking breakfast. The sweet aroma led Marissa downstairs.

"Hey, Dr. Roberts."

"Good morning, Marissa. Your mother called. She wants you back home, tonight."

Marissa let out a sigh, "Do I have to go back?"

"I'm afraid so." Dr. Roberts grinned weakly.

"Well, I'm going for a walk."

"Aren't you hungry?" Dr. Roberts asked, grabbing some plates.

"Nah." Marissa shook her head. Her stomach growled. "I'll uh, eat later."

"Oh okay. I'll see you later. The food would get cold, though."

"I like my food cold." Marissa lied.

"Sure, whatever you say." Dr. Roberts winked, smiling.

Summer came running downstairs. "Hey Marissa! Morning, Dad."

"Hey, Sum." Marissa replied.

"Morning." Dr. Roberts responded, planting a kiss on Summer's cheek. Summer wiped it off.

"Wow, I'm starved." Summer looked at the food.

"Dig in." Dr. Roberts urged.

"I should go." Marissa said.

"Where? And how are you feeling? About Alex and all?" Summer asked, stuffing a slice of bacon in her mouth.

"Just for a walk and I'm fine." Marissa said, getting closer to the door.

"Who's Alex?" Dr. Roberts asked.

"Marissa's ex-girlfriend." Summer said, swallowing the bacon.

"Broke up with me two nights ago and left." Marissa muttered.

"Awh, why would someone break up with you? And I didn't know you were bisexual." Dr. Roberts joked.

"I'll go now." Marissa said, ignoring the question.

"Alright, bye." Dr. Roberts and Summer muttered in unison.

"See ya." Marissa opened the door and left. She had no clue at all where she wanted to go. She ran for a short distance and continued walking until she reached the beach.

She walked slowly along the water, waves crashing into the rocks and sand. She finally decided to sit down in the grainy sand. The sun was up and the temperature was unusually warm for February. Marissa looked around. She was sitting exactly where Alex and Marissa had shared their first kiss, on Valentine's day. The words, "Tide just turned," kept flowing through her head. Marissa repeated it faintly. Alex's calming voice, Alex's calming touch, her smell, her beautiful green eyes, it was too much for Marissa. No matter how much she loved Ryan, she loved Alex more. If only she could tell Alex that, it might of made Alex stay and be with Marissa even longer, perhaps forever. She was afraid if Alex didn't love her back, but it was obvious she did. Marissa had seen the pain in Alex's eyes when she broke up with Marissa. She broke up with Marissa because she couldn't stand Ryan being there and she thought breaking up with Marissa would make Marissa happier. Marissa knew that was false. She was happier with Alex. She's couldn't believe the person she loved most, she had let slip away.

Marissa started to cry. Tears flowed from her eyes, a small puddle appearing in the sand, below her hands. Marissa grabbed some sand from the exact place Alex had sat nights before. Marissa poured it in her jacket pocket, saving Alex's calming touch.

Marissa walked back slowly, tears flowing still.

After about ten minutes, Marissa finally reached Summer's house. She knocked on the door and there was a grunt as someone ran towards the door on the other side. Someone blonde opened the door.
Marissa was shocked. "What the...? What are you doing here?"

"Mom made me stay. Sorry if you have to see me even more." Alex joked.

"B-but... why are you at Summer's?"

"Just got here a few minutes ago. I thought you would be here but Summer was gone when I arrived. At the Cohen's. Mr. Roberts just left for work or something and he said I could stay here and wait for you."

"Oh. Why did you come to see me?"

"Do I have to say?"

"Uh, yeah."

"Cause I still love you." Alex confessed.

There was an awkward silence.

"Oh."

Hurt flashed across Alex's face. "Do you?"

"Uh, sure."

Alex just stared at her. "Oh well, come in."

Marissa thought for a minute before coming into the house. Some sand fell from her pocket. "So..."

"Why is there sand in your pocket?"

Marissa covered her pocket. "Yeah... about that."

"Marissa, tell me..."

"Well I went to the beach and... I went to the place where we first kissed and grabbed the sand from where you sat." Marissa said quickly. Her cheeks were getting red from embarrassment.

"Uh. I never knew you were that weird." Alex joked.

"Ha. Funny." Marissa smiled.

There was a knock on the door. "I'll get it."

Marissa watched Alex open the door as a familiar voice said, "Alex... What are you doing here?"

"Ryan..."

Ryan walked into the room and caught Marissa's eyes, "Marissa! I was looking all over for you." Ryan walked towards Marissa and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Marissa pulled away slowly, "Ryan..." Marissa could see Alex flinching and trying to control herself. "Hey... Do you need something?"

"Yeah you."

"Oh, well I'm kind of busy."

"With?"

"Erhm... packing. I have to move my stuff from Alex's place."

Alex just stood there. Ryan turned around. "Oh yeah, hey Alex. I thought you left."

Alex shrugged. "My mom made me stay."

"Oh well. I'm going to go." Ryan said.

"Bye." Alex and Marissa said. Ryan ran out as Alex kicked the door closed.

"You're with Ryan?"

"No way. That's way to fast to move on."

"Oh." Alex grinned. "So you're going to get your stuff right?"

"Since you're here, I'd rather stay at your place. Better than mine."

"Oh. I already redecorated the place."
