So what's really going on with Mischa Barton?
The actress was taken to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon for unknown medical reasons and placed into involuntary psychiatric hold by LAPD officers.
Friends are dishing to People that the actress has been spiraling out of control for the past couple years. "She has been on a destructive path for a while now. Her drug and alcohol [use] has gotten to a point where it drove people away," the friend revealed.
The 23-year-old has been "dealing with a lot of personal issues," and recent pictures of the star don't paint the prettiest picture.
Her friend emphasized, "I don't think she knows her limits."
Mischa could be discharged by Saturday afternoon, but if her mental state doesn't improve, doctors can request an additional 14-day hold. | |

| Mischa Barton, who was hospitalized last week and reportedly placed under psychiatric supervision, "continues to improve but is still undergoing treatment," according to her publicist Craig Schneider. She hopes to return to work later this month, when The CW's The Beautiful Life is to begin production. Barton was cast as a pill-popping model in the new series, and despite reports to the contrary, Schneider insists her involvement remains on track as the network recently requested bio info to include in the show's press materials.
